Jim Walter Resources (JWR), a mining company based in Birmingham, AL, has settled a disability discrimination lawsuit for having workplace policies that gp against the Americans with Disabilities Act. JWR refused to provide a reasonable accommodation to an employee with a hearing impairment when he requested to move to a part of the mine that wouldn't harm his hearing aids. The company has agreed to provide training to its staff about disability discrimination.

A federal judge ruled in favor of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's (EEOC) claim against Creative Networks of Phoenix of disability discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The company, which provides services to people with disabilities, failed to provide reasonable accommodations for an applicant who has a hearing impairment. The case will go to trial on the issues of damages and legal changes that the company will have to make.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued a Findings Letter stating that Oregon has violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the way it provides employment and vocational services to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The investigation found that these services were mainly delivered in segregated sheltered workshops. Title II of the ADA and Olmstead require that people be integrated into the community, and in this case, have the opportunity to work with co-workers with and without disabilities.
