Biography

Dr. Brenda Korte is a Program Director in the Division of Discovery Science and Technology at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, National Institutes of Health. Dr. Korte received her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1996 from the University of Colorado. Her graduate research was focused on materials chemistry, including work in molecular beam epitaxy and molecular magnetism. From 1996-1998, Dr. Korte worked at Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy facility, as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Metallurgy and Ceramics Division, investigating rare earth intermetallics for magnetic refrigeration. She then made the transition into the medical device area as a Senior Researcher in noninvasive monitoring at Datex-Ohmeda, a medical device company specializing in patient monitoring and anesthesia delivery. Dr. Korte now applies her combined materials and device background to the management of the sensor and microsystem program area at the NIBIB, which is focused on the development of high-throughput screening technologies and novel in vitro diagnostics for point-of-care testing.
