Meet Foreign Exchange Students - Germany: Julia

My name is Julia and I am an exchange student from Flensburg in northern Germany. I am in the U.S. with the CBYX, Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange program. For my exchange year I am living in Williamsburg, Virginia. I live in a really good family with two host sisters. I am 17 years old and I am a senior in high school, but I will have 2 more years of school to finish when I go back to Germany. After that I want to go to Spain for a year, and then I want to go to a university to study International Management or International Relations.

I also have a very good time in school. The American high school system is quite different from the German system. I am experiencing a lot of new things. I have, for example, a much bigger choice for my curriculum selection in America, so that I can take classes I am interested in, for example psychology. Another big difference is that we do not have school sports in Germany; we have to go to out of school clubs to participate in a sport. Playing sports really helped me to get to know a lot more people. I already participated in volleyball and swimming and next week I will start track and field.

Over all, I enjoy every single day in this country and I would like to recommend to everybody who has the opportunity and the interest to go to another country to do an exchange.
