Unix Hosting Services

Unix Hosting Services provide dedicated, shared, and virtual Unix servers that are centrally supported in a fully managed, 24x7 hosted environment. The Unix environment—approximately 300 servers—is appropriate for any Unix-based application and has specific capabilities for applications that use Oracle databases. Services include managed storage and backup, SSL certificates, network security architectures, application firewalls, shared and dedicated load balancers, central web and database services in shared and dedicated configurations, and disaster recovery offerings.

Unix hosting services are available both in the NIH Data Center on the NIH Campus and at our contracted off-campus commercial site in northern Virginia.

More information on hardware and software is available on the CIT website.

Customer Benefits

CIT's Unix-based application hosting service provides an efficient, reliable, and economical computing environment. We specifically work with customers to tailor hardware and software configurations to meet your requirements.

Unix Hosting provides a secure, SSAE 16 (formerly SAS 70) audited environment with high availability configurations which includes patching, monitoring, and a dedicated customer coordinator. The hosted Unix systems are validated for hosting critical applications and sensitive data. For further information, see the Data Center security page

With the Unix Virtual Server service, customers receive an economical service similar to having a dedicated server. Virtualization offers faster and more flexible provisioning with decreased downtime, at a lower cost.
