John C. Stennis represented Mississippi in the United States Senate from November 5, 1947 to January 3, 1989. He is the sixth longest serving Senator in American history. He lived from 1901 to 1995.

How is the Stennis Center funded?
When the Stennis Center was established in 1988, Congress appropriated $7.5 million to be held in a trust fund in U.S. Treasury securities. Only the interest from these securities is available for expenditure by the Stennis Center. The Stennis Center's financial accounting is administered by the General Services Administration. The Stennis Center's finances are audited by T.E. Lott & Company, Certified Public Accountants.
