Program Overview

The International Clinical, Operational and Health Services Research and Training Award (ICOHRTA) for non-communicable diseases and disorders supports training to facilitate collaborative, multidisciplinary, international clinical, operational, health services and prevention science research between U.S. institutions and those in low- to middle-income countries. See The World Bank Country and Lending Groups to identify countries with low- or middle-income economies. Applications are accepted from U.S. applicant institutions to support clinical, operational and health services research training programs that will include training at U.S. and foreign collaborating sites and mentored research and training carried out mainly at a foreign site. Individuals from foreign countries who wish to become trainees must apply to the project director of an awarded grant.

Eligible topics include all clinical, operational, health services and prevention science research areas supported by NIH. Priority is given to research-training programs in areas relevant to the participating NIH institutes. Infectious diseases related training programs are not included. Research topics must also be relevant to a major current or anticipated future medical or public health problem(s) in the foreign collaborating country of trainees participating in the program.

Individuals from foreign countries who wish to become trainees should apply to the project director of an awarded grant.
