Information Technology Project Manager

PURPOSE: Provides project management and leadership for designated IT (Information Technology) Technical Projects and department's integrated project work schedule within Information Technology Services (ITS). Will be responsible for providing the project management, planning, budgetary and technical oversight, and coordination necessary to manage complex IT projects. Prepares, develops and monitors project budgets. Works with functional manager to establish standards of performance, implement quality control measures, and capture knowledge through ongoing process evaluation. As a member of the ITS Project Management team, will also be responsible for maintaining and verifying ITS' project management processes and assisting with Portfolio management.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Serves as Project Manager on designated IT projects. (Typically large projects with higher risk and organizational value). Follows ITS project management process and ensures transparency of the project including schedule, budget, and scope. Manages project risk and issues, and coordinates activities for the project.

 

  • Serves as a member of the ITS Project Management Team to oversee the Project Management Process for all Projects inside ITS. While not managing all projects, will oversee the project management process to ensure that the process is being followed and that appropriate documentation exists for all projects.

 

  • Work directly with the ITS managers to coordinate and manage resources and balance operational vs. project needs.

 

  • Work directly with the Project Management Team and ITS Managers to refine and improve the IT Project Management System, Processes, and Tools.

 

  • Maintain the ITS Project Portfolio and provide project reporting for all projects to management team.

 

  • Provide training and mentoring in project management tools and processes to the ITS staff.

 

  • Coordinate with ITS staff and business owners to transition business requirements into feasible and appropriate technical solutions.

 

  • Develop and implement continuous improvement techniques into the ITS project management process. Manage relationships with the customers and sponsors of the projects whether internal or external to ITS - work closely with customers and sponsors to set and manage appropriate project expectations, ensure clear lines of effective communication, and provide status reports. Must be able to facilitate team and client meetings effectively.

 

  • Provide support and coordination to the ORAU IT Governance Committees related to project prioritization, execution, and tracking.

 

  • Serve as an ITS liaison to the ORAU Project Management Office.

Must be able to facilitate team and client meetings effectively.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in project management, computer science, information technology, business or related field or equivalent experience performing duties as described with four - six years of experience in the IT Industry. Must have two - four years successful Technical Project Management experience. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required. Demonstrated effective leadership skill and project planning and management skills. Must be a self-starter, very organized, highly motivated to succeed, and be able to work independently. Demonstrated ability to take ownership and responsibility and to see projects through to the end. Must possess an in-depth knowledge of IT and Project Management. Should have financial and business management skills and be able to manage large budgets. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills including ability to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully. Should possess a general understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design. Should understand Internet, Intranet, Extranet and client/server architectures. Must be able to deliver engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
