The Minnesota Agency serves as the headquarters from which the Bureau's responsibility to Federally recognized tribes are carried out. The Agency has primary and full responsibility for the government-to-government relationship to the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, and its six member Bands (Bois Forte, Fond du Lac, Grand Portage, Leech Lake, White Earth, and Mille Lacs), which are located in the northern and central regions of Minnesota. The Office of the Superintendent is charged with the authority and responsibility for the daily management of the varied programs and inherent federal responsibilities associated with the management of Agency resources. The office provides overall program planning; staffing; execution and coordination of Bureau programs administered on behalf of the six Federally recognized tribes within its jurisdiction. Assistance is provided to tribes in contract administration, real estate services, forest management, tribal government, program administration, self-determination/self-governance services, road construction, delivery of direct services and fulfillment of the Federal Government's trust responsibilities.
