Silence Means Security

Dimensions: 20" (w) x 28" (h)

During the Second World War, a large campaign advocating cautiousness when speaking about the war was launched. Many different posters depicting a wide array of circumstances, such as "Loose Lips Sink Ships", were created with the theme of inadvertent leaks to the enemy. Civilians as well as military personnel were expected to adhere to strict guidelines when speaking or writing about war-related matters. This poster is one of many produced by The Office for Emergency Management via the Bureau of Special Services of the Office of War Information.

The photomechanical print of this poster can be found in Record Group 44: Records of the Office of Government Reports, 1932-1947, Still Picture Records Section, Special Media Archives Services Division at Archives II in College Park, Maryland.
