Background Documents and Information:

On Thursday, February 14, 2013, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will host a Manufacturing Showcase featuring products manufactured in the subcommittee members’ districts. The Showcase will precede the subcommittee’s hearing, “Our Nation of Builders: Manufacturing in America,” and will display a variety of products – more than 50 individual items – made in the USA including auto parts, medical devices, and cutting-edge new electronics.

Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. and Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Lee Terry (R-NE) and Ranking Member Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) will kick off the event with remarks at 9:15 a.m. highlighting the importance of manufacturing to our economy.

“Manufacturing touches each and every congressional district and the industry supports nearly 12 million jobs nationwide, with more than half those jobs located in states represented by the subcommittee,” said Terry. “We are still the world’s largest manufacturing economy and this event will showcase just a few of the products that today are proudly made in the USA right in our own backyards.”

A range of products will be on display from respirators and artificial hips to steel and 3-dimensional printers. Members of the media and the public are encouraged to explore the Manufacturing Showcase from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Showcase will also re-open following the conclusion of the subcommittee’s hearing.
