The Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatments (TARGET) Data Portal enables the cancer research community to search, download, and analyze data generated by the TARGET Initiative. The goal of data sharing in the TARGET Data Portal is to facilitate the discovery of therapeutic targets for the most prevalent childhood cancers and catalyze the translation of these findings into clinical applications that reduce the burden of these diseases.
TARGET researchers use various genomics methods to identify the underlying molecular changes in multiple childhood cancers, including acute lymphoblastic and myeloid leukemias, neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma, and Wilms tumor. Data generated from these studies are coordinated and maintained by the Data Coordinating Center (DCC). Learn more.
To respect the privacy and confidentiality of our patients, some TARGET data is protected and requires approval to access. Learn more about this controlled-access tier of data, including the eligibility requirements and steps needed to gain entry approval.
All TARGET data, with the exception of sequence trace files and aligned reads, are maintained at the Data Coordinating Center (DCC), which is located within NCI's Center for Bioinformatics and Information Technology. Trace files generated through Sanger sequencing technologies are stored in the National Center for Biotechnology Information's (NCBI) Trace Archive, while the aligned reads (BAM files) from 2nd and 3rd generation sequencing technologies are contained in NCBI's Sequence Read Archives and obtained through NCBI's dbGAP website. To facilitate data access for the user, all TARGET data is available through the Data Matrix; those files maintained at the DCC can be accessed directly, while trace files and aligned reads are obtainable via hyperlink to the appropriate storage location.
All available data, including clinical, genome-scale characterization and sequencing data, as well as metadata can be accessed either directly or indirectly through the TARGET Data Matrix. New data will available on a continuing basis as they are released to the research community. Learn more.
