9th Graduate Student Research Symposium - Abstract Submission

All NIH graduate students are encouraged to submit an abstract for poster presentation in one of the categories listed below. First and second-year students beginning their dissertation studies are also highly encouraged to present their research proposals in the "New Proposal" category. A committee of postdoctoral, staff scientist, and staff clinician judges will evaluate these posters, and the students with the best posters will receive travel awards - the NIH Graduate Student Research Awards (NGSRA). One of the NGSRA awards is reserved exclusively for a poster submitted in the "New Proposal" category, so we encourage you to apply even if you are just starting your research! Don't miss out. Submit now!

Travel Awards Notes:

  • NGSRA winners from the 8th Annual NIH Graduate Student Research Symposium are eligible to compete again this year, but the poster must be at least 50% different/updated from last year.
  • Travel awards are active for one-year though subject to early expiration if the awardee graduates or leaves NIH prior to the end of the redemption period.  Details provided in the award letter.

Guidelines for abstracts
You can submit your abstract online by filling out the submission form. The deadline for posters is Friday, November 16, 2012 at 5:00pm ET.  Note, the deadline for oral presentations is different (see below for more details).  Abstracts must be limited to 500 words and cannot include tables and figures.

Oral presentations
Three students will be selected to present their work in the form of an oral presentation. To be eligible for this honor, you must have given an oral presentation at the Graduate Student Seminar Series (GS3) or at the GPP Retreat.  Your abstract must be submitted by Friday, November 9, 2012, to receive full consideration.  Those chosen to give oral presentations are also required to present posters.
