Welcome to American Citizen Services
Nearly 40,000 American citizens live and work in The Netherlands. Many more visit every year. The Department of State, through its Consulate General in Amsterdam, provides a range of routine and emergency services for Americans who live in The Netherlands or who are just visiting.
The American, or U.S. Citizen Services (ACS) Unit’s assistance includes but is not limited to, Passport services, Notary services, and Consular Reports of Births Abroad. Some passport services are available by mail, other services require a visit to the Consulate General in Amsterdam. Visits require you to set up an appointment. This way time will be reserved for you and our staff can help you more efficiently. Below you will find how to set up such an appointment. The Consulate General also assists in emergencies, including deaths, arrests and crisis situations.
Our services are available by appointment or by mail
All of our American citizen services requiring your presence at the Consulate, are available by appointment only. Appointment slots will be scheduled daily from 8:30 AM until 11:30 AM. General information on American citizen services
The information on this website is designed to help you understand the services we can offer and to provide some useful information which may help you during your stay, be it long or short, in The Netherlands.
We urge you to register with us if you will be traveling or living in The Netherlands so we can better serve you, especially in the case of an emergency or disaster.
Many of our services require 2" x 2" photos. You must bring these photos to your appointment or enclose them with your mail-in application. Here's how to get them. No other photo format is acceptable, they have to be 2" x 2" (5 Cm. x 5 Cm.).
The ACS Unit will not be able to answer questions about visas.
