Description

This is an online course in which participants will gain specific knowledge, skills and strategies needed to increase cultural competency, improve communication with minority populations, and address potential cultural barriers to recruiting minority populations to clinical trials. The course is designed for patient navigators, principal investigators, referring clinicians, and research staff. 

Details

This course is the last of four trainings on EMPACT's web site. It also includes a cultural competency assessment tool. The specific learning objectives for this course are: 

  1. Explain the role of cultural competency in minority recruitment to clinical trials.
  2. Identify and address cultural barriers to minority recruitment to clinical trials.
  3. Describe effective models used to facilitate culturally competent and culturally acceptable communications between researchers and participants.
  4. Examine the ways in which the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards can be applied to recruiting diverse communities to clinical trials.
