From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, I’m Nicholas Garlow with HHS HealthBeat.

Body Mass Index, or BMI, is a reliable indicator of body fatness based on your height and weight, and places you in one of three categories; normal, overweight or obese.  Which are you? A new smartphone app from the National Institutes of Health can let your phone tell you.

The NIH’s Karen Donato.

“The app is a way for you to calculate your weight in relation to your height. And then it will give you the corresponding BMI number, as well as the categories of weight where your body mass index lie.” (14 seconds)

To get the free app, search “My BMI Calculator” on your phone today.

“The app also provides links to information on the NHLBI website for what you should do, based on your body mass index.” (10 seconds)
