How can I find what happened to an Institution?

The Institution Profile screen serves as the ‘launch pad' to further details regarding an institution. From this page users have the ability to retrieve information such as:

  • Institution History: a chronological list of changes to the institution. This includes such things as name and address changes, charter conversions and so on..

  • Institutions Acquired: a list of other institutions acquired by the subject institution.

  • Organizational Hierarchy: detailed information regarding ownership if the subject institution is part of a multi-level, “tiered”, organization.

  • Branch Locator: a list of branches the subject institution operates.

How can I find the FFIEC002 Report and other U.S. Branches and Agencies of FBOs?

The USBA Search tab allows you to search for U.S. Branches and Agencies (USBAs) of Foreign Banking Organizations (FBOs). From the Home page or any other page, select the USBA Search tab and follow the instructions on the screen.

After selecting your criteria, click the "Submit" button. For detailed instructions on the USBA Search, click on Help at the bottom of the USBA Search page

Where can I find the institution's Characteristic, Structure, and Financial information?

A summary of characteristic and structure information is referred to as the Institution's Profile. To access the Institution's Profile page you must perform one of the following three searches.

        1. Institution Search
        2. USBA Search
        3. Top 50 HCs

From the summary page you may access the institution's Organizational Hierarchy Report and Financial Reports.

Characteristics are based upon the various Institution Types.

How can I find a branch of a bank?

Use the Branch Locator to search for branches of a bank. The Branch Locator is accessible from the Institution Profile page only; from there you will be able to search for Branches of Domestic Banks. Typically, an institution that is a Head Office has branches.

Use the Institution Search to locate a bank. The name of the bank's Head Office is a hyperlink from the Institution's Profile page.

  1. Click on the Head Office name to access its Profile page. Additional menu buttons are displayed at the top of the page. One of those buttons is labeled Branch Locator.
  2. After selecting Branch Locator button, the name of the selected institution along with the Name, RSSD ID, and Location of the branches will also be displayed.
  3. To learn more about the Institution Profile, use the Help link at the bottom of of the Institution Profile page.

The National Information Center (NIC) does not provide information for the branches of Thrift Institutions or Credit Unions.

How do I find branches of my bank outside of the United States?

What is meant by "Current", Non-Current", and "Current and Non-Current" status?

Status lets you know if an institution is open or closed. It is key when searching for acquisitions, closures, mergers, and etc.

  • Current institutions are currently open and head offices
  • Non-Current institutions are either closed or currently exist as branch offices
  • Current and Non-Current (default) Includes all head office institutions, closed institutions, or those now existing as branches

What is an Organization Hierarchy Report and how do I create one?

The Organization Hierarchy Report displays the ownership relationships of an institution and can be accessed from the Institution Profile page of the institution you are investigating. see the Organization Hierarchy Help Page.
