    2013 Black History Month Observance Program — Wednesday, February 20

    This year’s program "At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation" will take place from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the Lipsett Auditorium in the Clinical Center, Bldg. 10. Keynote Speaker, NIDDK Director Dr. Griffin P. Rodgers will present "Type II Diabetes and Obesity: And the major concerns within the African American Community."     Blood Donations Needed

    African American whole blood donors are urgently needed to support patients with sickle cell disease. These patients have made antibodies, so that only very closely matched donors can be used. There is also a shortage of A+, B+ and O+. Please visit the NIH Blood Bank, located on the first floor of the Clinical Center, Building 10. For more information, call 301-496-1048.

    NIH Philharmonia Orchestra Concert — Saturday, February 23

    The NIH Philharmonia Orchestra will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (917 Montrose Rd., Rockville, MD). The concert "Homage and Images” features Borodin's "In the Steppes of Central Asia," Ravel's "Le Tombleau de Couperin," and Mussorgsky's incredible "Pictures at an Exhibition."

    NIH Sailing Association Open House — Thursday, February 28

    Explore your interest in learning to sail and discover all the opportunities for sailing with the NIHSA. They offer instruction, sailboats for charter, racing, cruises, parties and fun!! The Open House will be from 5-8pm at the FAES House on the corner of Old Georgetown Road and Cedar Lane — $5.00 at the door includes pizza and snacks. Cash bar for beer and wine: $1.00 each.

    HeartWalk at NIH

    Bright red HeartWalk logo stencils have been placed in 1/10 mile increments all over the NIH campus on most of our traveled sidewalks. Count 10 logos and you have traveled approximately 1 mile. A printable map, marking the routes is available Online.
