COCA’s Weekly Updates are moving to a new distribution schedule. Updates will be disseminated every other week (biweekly). More frequent distributions will occur when there is emergency information or event-specific updates to share.  The next COCA Update is scheduled for July 19, 2010.

Title: Promoting Health and Preventing Disease: Childhood and Adult Vaccine Updates and Recommendations

Disease prevention is the key to public health. Vaccines prevent disease in the people who receive them and protect those who come into contact with unvaccinated individuals. Every year, vaccination saves the lives of 2.5 million children and protects over 100 million more from illness and disability. During this COCA call, a CDC subject matter expert will discuss the most recent Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations for pediatric and adult vaccinations, to include newer vaccines and recommended administration schedules. In addition, information on how healthcare providers can easily locate immunization resources to aid in developing immunization administration protocols that foster the promotion of childhood and adult immunizations in provider practices will be discussed.

Recommendations contained in the Interim Guidance will be updated as more information about exposures is collected and assessed in relationship to the incidence and prevalence of symptoms, illnesses and injuries. The specific recommendations provided in this Interim Guidance focus on issues specific to the Deepwater Horizon Response.
