Scalability

Scalability refers to the ability of operable systems to respond to change and growth in interoperable communications requirements. It allows for the expansion of the capabilities of a network, or systems, without any cause/effect relationship to the system itself. Thus, more validated users are able to access a communications network or system in a transparent manner and without affecting the operability – or interoperability - of the network or system. Whether based on an open architecture that allows multiple independent devices and systems to be integrated or a system based on common standardized elements, the operability of the system must not be compromised by additional users.
