Mission Statement
The Vermont Department of Health, the state's public health agency, works to protect and improve the health of our population through core public health functions. Core public health functions are those activities that lay the groundwork for healthy communities and include the following: prevent epidemics, protect against health threats in the workplace and in air, water, food and housing, promote healthy behaviors, monitor the health status of the population, mobilize community action for health, respond to disasters, assure quality, accessibility and accountability for medical care, reach out to link special populations to services, provide direct services when needed, provide sound public health policy and planning.
