Mission Statement

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute provides leadership for a national program in diseases of the heart, blood vessels, blood, and lungs and in the use of blood and the management of blood resources. It plans, conducts, fosters, and supports an integrated and coordinated program of research, investigations, clinical trials, and demonstration and education projects relating to the causes, prevention, methods of diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases through research in its own laboratories and through extramural contracts and research grants.
