The Armed Services Blood Program (ASBP) has implemented a new policy regarding tattoos that may allow more donors to give blood to the military. This new policy, which went into effect Nov. 30, 2007, allows donors with new tattoos to give blood again after just one week, instead of the previous one-year deferral period; provided the tattoo was acquired in a state-regulated tattoo parlor. This new policy allows the ASBP to accept donations from more individuals wishing to contribute to the militaryAca,!a,,cs blood supply for combat areas and at home.

In 1995 Danny Dunn, along with Carolene Wu, was given the cultural resource mission for Redstone Arsenal. They literally had to build a program from scratch for a 38,000 acre installation which has more than 900 archaeological sites. With the help of others in the Environmental Office and the Garrison leadership, they did just that. The result was a program that Redstone Arsenal and the Army promote as a model for other installations to follow.

While the call to aide Warriors in Transition was answered on Fort Lee months prior, the activation ceremony on Feb. 27 officially recognized the staff and members of the WTU. Col. Donna Diamond, Kenner Army Health Clinic commander, and Capt. David Payne, WTU commander, uncased the colors that will be displayed at the new WTU headquarters location at Larkin Hall. The mission of the Kenner WTU is to provide command and control, primary care and case management, and to establish conditions for wounded Soldiers as they heal and to promote the timely return to the force or in transitioning to Civilian life.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (Feb. 29, 2008) -- At the request of the imam of the Balad Shrine Mosque, Soldiers from the 2nd platoon of the 164th Military Police Company, 728th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade and Multi National Division - North visited the mosque Feb. 24 to increase its protection and prevent future attacks on the site. The Soldiers were the first coalition forces to be granted permission to visit the mosque. The Soldiers of the 2nd platoon have worked with the imam and other local religious leaders for eight months, and have developed a good working relationship that has resulted in frequent requests for additional security assistance during events near the shrine, said Capt. Matthew Norris, the 164th commander. Soldiers, Iraqi Police and National police in Balad have worked together to place approximately 160 protective barriers around the mosque.

Aca,!A"What we extended to the Canadians was, Aca,!EoeAnything that you need, we will provide,Aca,!a,,cAca,!A? said the 49th QM GroupAca,!a,,cs commander, Col. John P. Curran, during the exercise. Maybe that should be the unitAca,!a,,cs new motto. The 49th provided the full range of its sustainment capabilities to more than 400 members of the Canadian Army Reserve, the principal participant in the joint Granite Triangle, Southbound Trooper VIII and Maritime Raider field training exercises held at the Virginia National Guard installation. That included fuel support for ground vehicles and aircraft, transportation functions and a 500-personnel-capacity tent city built from the ground up for exercise participants. More than 700 Soldiers from the 49th QM Group took part in the training centered on a peacekeeping operations scenario. Curran said the training was invaluable.

The uses of these lines of communication can vary from allowing ground forces to radio for aerial support when theyAca,!a,,cre in a tight situation to providing deployed parents with the opportunity to download e-mailed pictures from their families back home. When members of Task Force XII, the aviation task force led by the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade that supports Multi-National Division - Baghdad , need to establish communications or get lines fixed or relocated, they turn to signal Soldiers.

COMBAT OUTPOST OLD MOD, Iraq (Feb. 25, 2008) -- Securing downtown Baghdad is a demanding mission for the Soldiers of the 108th Military Police Company. For these MPs from Fort Bragg, N.C., personal space and comfortable living conditions help to lessen the stress of that critical task. When the 108th first arrived here, the living conditions were neither personal nor private. The open bay quarters the Soldiers occupied were large, open rooms accommodating up to 30 Soldiers with bunk beds and not much else. Aca,!A"There was just no privacy, no air circulation. It was generally, 'Live where you can fit in,' with no personal space whatsoever.
