Corrections to the Kids' Inpatient Database (KID) - 2003

Please refer to the information below for corrections to the KID data set.

Correction to 2003 KID Core File, KID_STRATUM
  • In the 2003 KID Core File, KID_STRATUM values of 9999 (Freestanding Children’s Hospitals) were inadvertently saved as 9998.
    To correct this problem:

    • In SAS files, increase the length of the KID_STRATUM data element from three to four bytes, and change the 9998 values to 9999.
    • In SPSS files, change the write format of the KID_STRATUM data element (KID_STRA) from F3.0 to F4.0, and change the 9998 values to 9999.

The KID_STRATUM values are correct in the 2003 KID Hospital File.
