In August 2008, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released Drug Abuse Warning Network, 2006: National Estimates of Drug-Related Emergency Department Visits. This annual report included estimates for 2006 and comparisons of the emergency department estimates for 2004, 2005, and 2006. This report may be accessed on the Web at http://dawninfo.samhsa.gov/files/ED2006/DAWN2k6ED.pdf.
The 2006 estimates reflect several improvements made to the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) sampling and estimation methodology. To ensure comparability between estimates for 2004, 2005, and 2006, the improvements were applied retrospectively to 2004 and 2005 data, resulting in small changes as compared with early published estimates.
Tables for 2005 that have not already been published in the 2006 ED report are now available online. The 2005 tables and charts follow the same title and numbering system as the 2006 ED report. Links to the revised 2005 tables are provided below.
