Influenza Situation Update

Weekly FluView Map and Surveillance Report – CDC – Apr 02
During week 12 (March 20-27, 2010), influenza activity remained at approximately the same levels as last week in the U.S.  One hundred and thirty nine (4.6%) specimens tested by U.S. World Health Organization (WHO) and National Respiratory and Enteric Virus Surveillance System (NREVSS) collaborating laboratories were positive for influenza and reported to CDC/Influenza Division.

Influenza and Pneumonia-Associated Hospitalizations and Deaths from August 30, 2009 to March 27,  2010 - CDC – Apr 02
FluView reports for the week of March 20 – March 27, 2010, indicate flu activity in the United States remained at approximately the same level as the previous week. Approximately 99% of all subtyped influenza A viruses reported to CDC were 2009 influenza A (H1N1) viruses.

WHO Updates International H1N1 Situation  - WHO – Apr 01
As of  March 28, 2010, more than 213 countries and overseas territories or communities have reported laboratory confirmed cases of pandemic influenza H1N1 2009, including over 17,483 deaths.

2009 H1N1 Influenza Resources for Clinicians

Interim Results: Influenza A (H1N1) 2009 Monovalent and Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Coverage Among Health-Care Personnel - United States, August 2009-January 2010 – CDC/MMWR – Apr 02
In August 2009, ACIP recommended that HCP be one of five initial target groups to receive the influenza A (H1N1) 2009 monovalent vaccine when it first became available. This report summarizes results of a population-based panel survey administered via the Internet during January 2010 to a nationally representative sample of 1,417 to assess vaccination coverage.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Poisoning Prevention – CDC – Mar 31
When power outages occur during emergencies such as hurricanes or late winter storms, the use of alternative sources of power for heating, cooling, or cooking can cause carbon monoxide (CO) to build up in a home, garage, or camper and to poison the people and animals inside.

At this time, CDC recommends that U.S. travelers continue to avoid all nonessential travel to Haiti.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of State strongly urges U.S. citizens to avoid travel to Haiti.
