Metro Lost and Found

Report a Lost Item

There are two ways to report an item lost within the Metrorail or Metrobus systems:

Online

For items lost within the Metrorail system, our online Lost and Found form is the easiest and most efficient way to report lost items. For items lost within the Metrobus system, contact the proper bus division. Once you submit information on the lost item online, it will be entered into our tracking system for processing and will be accessible to Lost and Found personnel. Within 30 minutes you will receive a confirmation email with a case number. To ensure that you receive a reply, please add the address "csvc@wmata.com" to the "white list" of any spam filter that may be running on your home computer or office email system. If you reply to the confirmation email with additional lost item information, it will automatically be routed to the appropriate person/department handling your report. Please note, if your item is found it may take up to five business days to reach our lost and found department.

Phone

You can also report your lost item by phone. You may contact our Lost and Found office at 202-962-1195 during the following hours: Tuesday-Friday 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., excluding national holidays. A customer service representative will record your information and provide you with a case number.

Refer to your case number in any interactions you have with us regarding your lost item. A Lost and Found customer service representative will search the system for matching found items and if a match is found, you will be contacted by email or phone to verify that it is your item. Confirmed lost item matches can be picked up at:

Metro Lost and Found Office
6505 Belcrest Road
Suite 500 West
Hyattsville, MD 20782

The Lost and Found office is conveniently located near the Prince George's Plaza Metro station.

Hours of Operation

The Lost and Found pick-up window is open Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The window is closed on weekends and all federal holidays.

Telephone Support

Metro Lost and Found staff members are available via telephone to provide assistance Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. by calling 202-962-1195. The Lost and Found Office is closed on weekends and all federal holidays.

You will only be contacted if a match is found for your item. Repeated visits, calls or email to our Lost and Found office will not help the process work more efficiently. If you are not contacted, it means that your item was not recovered. Metro makes every attempt to return lost items to their rightful owners. For further information, see the FAQ.

Lost items are held for 30 days. After 30 days, unclaimed items are destroyed, disposed of, donated to charity or auctioned off.
