Learn How to Use Metro

Travel Training

To help our customers with disabilities use the Metrorail and Metrobus systems for travel all around the region, we offer free travel training sessions and provide hands-on learning. These sessions are available one-on-one or in a group atmosphere. During the travel training, you will learn everything from how to locate Metrobus stops and Metrorail stations to purchasing a farecard and navigating the system. To schedule travel training, please call 202-962-1100 (TTY 202-962-2033).

Accessible Public Transportation Options

Speakers Bureau

The Accessibility Speakers Bureau consists of Metro employees and volunteers who donate their time to speak with groups on the accessibility features of the Metro system. These volunteers are available to meet with groups interested in learning more. Please call 202-962-1100 (TTY 202-962-2033) to schedule a speaker for your next meeting.

Travel Training Workshops

Train the Travel Trainers workshops inform travel trainers and orientation and mobility trainers about Metro's bus and rail system accessibility and safety features so that they may then incorporate this information into their existing travel training programs for people with disabilities. These free workshops are held at Metro headquarters periodically.  The event includes a series of presentations on Metro's accessibility features and a demonstration component, where participants have an opportunity to examine an accessible low floor ramp bus with the stop announcement system. Participants will also go on an outing on Metrorail, including stops at Gallery Pl-Chinatown, Judiciary Square, and Union Station. The workshop also includes a "Tips for Travel Trainers" presentation and a panel of customers who share their perspectives on and experiences using public transportation.
