Detroit - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations in Detroit seized a shipment of knit Detroit Tigers hats and headbands from China, destined for Warren, Michigan. The goods were subject to seizure because they failed to indicate the proper country of origin, as required by law, and because they bore a counterfeit trademark, the stylized "D" of the Detroit Tigers. Huge Seizure of Counterfeit Cell Phones at JFK Airport

Jamaica, N.Y. - An inspection by CBP officers at New York's JFK International Airport in January, led to an investigation that resulted in the arrest of three men and the seizure of nearly $2 million in counterfeit cell phones. The investigation, dubbed "Operation: Long Distance Haul" was initiated after the officers discovered a shipment of cell phones shipped loose in cardboard boxes with no packaging. (more)

CBP Bags Counterfeit Purses in Seattle

Seattle-U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and import specialists seized a shipment of 25,822 purses on March 13, arriving in an ocean container from China. More than 8,500 of the purses were seized in violation of various counterfeit trademarks including: Louis Vuitton, North Face, Gucci, Fendi, Burberry and Coach. (more)

Washington - Theft of American intellectual property is a serious crime, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced today that their vigorous, ongoing efforts to protect America from the trade in counterfeit and pirated goods during fiscal year 2011 resulted in 24,792 seizures, a 24 percent increase over 2010.
