Welcome to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Newark Field Division. The Newark Field Division is responsible for ATF criminal enforcement and industry regulatory activities in the State of New Jersey. Our dedicated work force is comprised of special agents, investigators, auditors, technicians, and support staff.

ATF is committed to reducing violent crime in our neighborhoods. ATF’s Newark Field Division special agents combat firearms violence by focusing their investigative efforts on firearm traffickers, street gangs that include the Bloods and Crips, armed violent offenders, and career criminals. We have joint firearms task forces that include partnerships with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies throughout New Jersey to accomplish this mission.

ATF Newark is also very proactive in investigating violations of federal law pertaining to arson and explosives. Our special agents work closely with local and state fire investigators and police bomb squads in conducting investigations throughout the State of New Jersey. We have our own special agent canine handler and bomb dog Ithaca who can respond to any need of assistance for suspicious packages or explosives related crime.

ATF also has the duty of regulating the firearms and explosives industries. Our industry operations investigators work to ensure that all firearms and explosives are stored, handled, and sold in a safe manner according to law.

We encourage all residents to get involved and assist us in our goal of reducing crime in our communities. Please give us a call and let us know what we can do for you. Our telephone number is (973) 413-1179.
