About the Collection
This component of The Nineteenth Century in Print: The Making of America in Books and Periodicals will present a large body of published books. The first release incorporates over 1,500 monographs, mostly published between 1850 and 1880. These books have been digitized and mounted by the University of Michigan as part of the Making of America project. The topics illuminated by this collection are wide-ranging, with an emphasis on social history. A Sampler of Collection Themes highlights this richness.
The collection also offers works that complement other American Memory collections.
