THE ARCHIVE

June 26, 2012 Opening

On June 26, 2012, the Nixon Library opened formerly restricted and unprocessed materials.

Textual Records

This opening includes the release of approximately 75,000 pages of material from the First Lady’s Press office. These papers document Mrs. Nixon’s many public appearances, her charitable work and her foreign travels, including her trip to Africa and to visit earthquake victims in Peru. Additionally the opening includes recently declassified national security materials. These documents cover a range of subjects including the establishment of the Vietnam Special Studies Group within the National Security Council, Israeli and Chinese Nuclear Weapons Programs, the oil embargo and relations with Japan, including the reversion of Okinawa to Japanese administration.

Oral Histories

How do presidential candidates catch your eye, spread their
message and, most importantly, win your vote? While the names have changed, technology evolved, and issues shifted, these same questions have guided nearly every campaign since our nation’s founding.

This exhibition takes you back in time to see what has changed and what remains the same when candidates “On the Campaign Trail” pursue our government’s highest office.Linkey
