STOP: Data Management Position

General Overview

The Stop Transmission of Polio (STOP) program at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recruiting qualified Data Managers to participate in STOP teams. STOP Data Managers will be deployed as short-term consultants for the World Health Organization (WHO) or UNICEF to resource-limited countries. STOP Data Managers will work to strengthen information systems of the Expanded Program on Immunization. The deployment period is 5 ½ months.

STOP Data Managers assist Ministries of Health, WHO, and UNICEF in improving their methods of managing and analyzing vaccine-preventable disease surveillance and immunization program data.  The primary responsibility of STOP Data Managers is to provide technical assistance in capacity building focused on:

  • Improving data compilation and reporting processes
  • Improving data quality monitoring
  • Improving data use
  • Improving feedback of data to data providers

STOP Data Managers must have strong hands-on data management skills, be proactive and flexible, and work well under difficult conditions with people of different cultures.

Position Requirements

In order to qualify, candidates must:

  • Hold a graduate degree in public health or related field
  • Have a minimum of five years of public health experience
  • Have experience working with public health surveillance systems
  • Have experience working in a developing country
  • Preferably have fluency in another language (particularly French or Portuguese)

In addition, candidates should have at least three years of direct experience in the following areas:

  • Data compilation and management
  • Data analysis
  • Data management training
