This position is located in the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), Office of the Director (OD).

DUTIES:

As a Health Science Policy Analyst for the NIMHD, you will serve a vital role in representing the Institute and coordinating with senior scientific management and/or scientific program staff to provide necessary scientific and programmatic information for relevant analyses, assessments, reports, and planning documents.  Some other responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and promoting analysis, monitoring policy and other developments in areas of science as they affect NIMHD and NIH programs; 
  • Providing leadership and guidance to help identify and bridge the existing gaps in research and health care to minority and other health disparity populations; 
  • Identifying potential policy and program implications and providing analysis of those issues; 
  • Developing position papers, special reports, recommendations for addressing gaps in research, and contributing to strategic planning documents;
  • Maintaining knowledge of the cultural, environmental, social, economic, research and other factors that impact research programs to provide effective and up-to-date advice and assistance.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To qualify, you must possess a Bachelor's degree with a major study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

AND

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Planning, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness of scientific projects or research programs; analyzing the impact of current and proposed health science policies and practices; identifying and solving problems or providing alternative solutions for research programs and /or initiatives; analyzing data to develop summary reports, strategic plans, analyze facts, and draw conclusions; and presenting analyses with recommendations to management.
