The " Am I Not a Man and A Brother" coin is an anti-slavery token dated 1838. It features a kneeling African-American man in chains, and on the reverse, a laurel wreath inscribed with "Liberty", "1838", and "United States of America". The imagery and text of this token are related to anti-slavery seals used in Britain from 1828 and the U.S. from 1832. This coin was carried by abolitionists in that era, as a symbol of their faith in the movement. Handcrafted in the U.S.A.
