Filing Form I-601 and I-212 from Abroad

We no longer accept Form I-601 and Form I-212 filings.
Beginning June 4, 2012, individuals abroad who have applied for certain visas and have been found ineligible by a U.S. Consular Officer, will be able to mail requests to waive certain grounds of inadmissibility directly to a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Lockbox facility. This change affects where individuals abroad, who have been found inadmissible for an immigrant visa or a nonimmigrant K or V visa, must send their waiver applications.
Currently, applicants experience processing times from one-month to more than a year depending on their filing location. This centralization will provide customers with faster and more efficient application processing and consistent adjudication. It is part of a broader agency effort to transition to domestic filing and adjudication; it does not reflect a change in policy or the standards by which the applications are adjudicated. Individuals filing waiver applications with a USCIS Lockbox will now be able to track the status of their case online
To learn more about changes in filing locations for Forms I-601, I-212 and I-290B, please see the USCIS News Update on Centralized Filing

Where to File

Waiver applications and supporting evidence should be mailed directly to the USCIS Lockbox. You may find the address for the appropriate USCIS Lockbox in the form instructions, as well as in the USCIS website at:

Please see the policy memorandum, Exceptions for Permitting the Filing of Form I-601, Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility, and any associated Form I-212, Application for Permission to Reapply for Admission into the United States After Deportation or Removal, at an International USCIS Offices, for more information.

I-601 Expedited Adjudication Requests

If you are sending your application to the USCIS Lockbox and believe you have extraordinary circumstances that are time-sensitive and compelling, you may attach a written request to have your application expedited at the time of filing.

If you have already submitted your application to the Lockbox, you can make an expedite request by either contacting the Nebraska Service Center (NSC) directly by email, or by calling the USCIS National Customer Service Center.

For information on how to contact the NSC and our National Customer Service Center, please visit the Contact Us page on the USCIS website.

Transportation Boarding Letters

The New Delhi Field Office does not issue Transportation Letters for a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States, who is not in possession of his/her Alien Registration Card (Form I-551/I-151). A transportation letter may be requested by a Lawful Permanent Resident, under some circumstances, to assist in traveling back to the United States from a foreign country. This function is handled by Customs and Border Protection at the U.S. Embassy, New Delhi. Please contact their office for additional information and requirements using the Embassy control number: 2419-8000, if your Alien Registration Card has been lost, stolen or is expired.
