The National Science Foundation supports collaborative projects involving academic institutions, private industry, and state and local governments. The Foundation also works closely with other Federal agencies in cross-cutting areas of research and education, and we support U.S. participation in international scientific efforts. Promoting partnerships is one of NSF's core strategies. Collaboration and partnerships between disciplines and institutions and among academe, industry, and government enable the movement of people, ideas, and tools throughout the public and private sectors.

Global Research Council
The Global Research Council (GRC) is a virtual organization comprising the heads of science and engineering funding agencies from around the world. It has a long-term objective of fostering multilateral research and collaboration across continents to benefit both developing and developed nations. The GRC was launched at the conclusion of the Global Summit on Merit Review, a two-day meeting hosted by the U.S. National Science Foundation in May 2012. The summit drew the participation of the heads of major science and engineering research funding agencies from nearly 50 countries, primarily representing the G-20 and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. In addition to launching the GRC, the summit released a "Statement of Principles for Scientific Merit Review." The next summit will be hosted by Brazil and Germany in May 2013.
