What it's about: Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, the authors studied 1,496 young men to see what factors contributed to their becoming teen parents.

NCFY Recommends: Dating Violence and LGBT Teens

Just like their straight peers, LGBT teens can be abused by their partners. In fact, the rate of violence in same-gender relationships is roughly the same as in heterosexual relationships. But abuse is often experienced differently by LGBT teens. An Abuse, Rape and Domestic Violence Aid and Resource Collection (AARDVARC) has compiled a list of resources for professionals exploring abuse and violence within same-sex relationships. The site also includes a list of debunked myths around LGBT relationship violence.

Right on the Money: Garnering Community Support for Your Special Events

When the curtain went up on the fifth annual “Dance with the Stars & Conway’s Got Talent” show, there wasn’t an empty seat in the house.

Choosing to Excel recently held the fundraiser to help support its Conway, Arkansas-based Mentoring Children of Prisoners program. The talent show featured home-grown celebrities like Miss Arkansas and local news anchors. The event helped the organization earn new donors, boost publicity, and raise awareness for its cause.
