Women With Diabetes: Quality of Health Care, 2004-2005 Almost half of the people with diabetes in this country are women, and projections indicate that women will account for most cases between 2010 and 2050. Yet, many reports do not stratify by sex, so it is difficult to determine the quality of care that women with, or are at risk of, diabetes receive. This report uses national data sets to show gaps in knowledge about quality of care among women with diagnosed diabetes. It presents measures in several areas, such as access to care, general well-being, and evidence-based diabetes-specific preventive care.ContentsAcknowledgmentsHighlights Access to CarePreventive ServicesIntroduction and Methods IntroductionMethodsDemographic and Socioeconomic Characteristics of Women Demographic ProfileSocioeconomic ProfileAccess to Care Usual Source of CareUsual Primary Care ProviderInsuranceEmergency Room VisitsTransportationGeneral Health and Well-Being Activity LimitationDiabetes-Specific Preventive Care Measurement of Hemoglobin A1cAnnual Dilated Eye ExaminationAnnual Foot ExaminationCardiovascular Disease-Specific Preventive Care CholesterolBlood PressureSmokingCancer-Specific Care Colorectal Cancer ScreeningScreening for Breast CancerScreening for Cervical CancerImmunizationDental CareAppendix A: ReferencesAppendix B: List of TablesAppendix C: List of AbbreviationsAcknowledgmentsCenters for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)Julie L.
