The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Office of Applied Studies (OAS). Data are collected by RTI International, a trade name of Research Triangle Institute, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Work by RTI was performed under Contract No. 283-98-9008. The survey is managed within SAMHSA's OAS by the Division of Population Surveys (DPS). In DPS, Doug Wright was responsible for the overall design of this effort, including the format of the report and the results. Staff at SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) also participated in identifying substate areas and contacting the States. Joseph C. Gfroerer, Charlene Lewis, and Dana Roberts reviewed and provided numerous suggestions and improvements on its content and format. At RTI, Kathryn Woodside and Neeraja Sathe coordinated all efforts that led to the final substate areas, including follow-up with States, production of maps, and substate estimates. Larry Kroutil assisted in defining the substate regions. Ralph Folsom was responsible for the overall methodology and estimation for the model-based Bayes estimates and prediction intervals. Akhil Vaish, Neeraja Sathe, and Kathryn Woodside were responsible for the estimation and analysis. Bill Wheaton, Justine Allpress, James Cajka, and Jeanne Game were responsible for the mapping. Mary Ellen Marsden provided substantive review. Bing Liu and Brenda Porter generated the tables. Jason Guder provided oversight for production of the report. Richard S. Straw and K. Scott Chestnut edited the report, Joyce Clay-Brooks formatted its text and tables, and Pamela Couch Prevatt, David Belton, Teresa F. Gurley, and Kim Cone prepared its Web versions. Final report production was provided by Beatrice A. Rouse and Coleen Sanderson at SAMHSA.
