This exhibit tells the story of the American soldiers that were charged with guarding the border between East Germany and West Germany with uniforms, photographs and memorabilia. The history of the border is traced from the early crude barbed wire fences in the countryside to the later Berlin Wall.

A presentation by James H. Randall, the Stead Family Professor of English Emeritus at Coe College, in the Herbert Hoover auditorium. Mr. Randall will focus his talk on the importance of Martin Luther King's words in our lives today.

Former director, Dr. Timothy Walch, will be speaking on the Hoover Biography project. For sale will be the last book in this project, The Life and Times of Herbert Hoover: Keeper of the Torch, 1933-1964 by Gary Dean Best. Herbert Hoover impersonator, Carl Christensen will also perform.

Lou Mehrer is a retired CIA officer who served in senior assignments in Washington and abroad.  Most recently he participated in the UK film production, Spies Beneath Berlin, the history of the Berlin Tunnel Operation. He will present his talk in the Herbert Hoover auditorium.

An exhibit on the experiences that Iowa and the other western states had during the Civil War. Learn how the soldiers lived by viewing artifacts, weapons, photographs and letters. This exhibit features one of three copies of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln on loan from the Louise Taper Collection in California.

The Eulenspiegel Puppets present Freedom Star; Gertie's Journey on the Underground Railroad at 1:30 followed by a Music Workshop featuring the history of American music with a focus on the Civil War era at 2:30. Both programs are for children.

A special performance by the Civil War Band - 33rd Illinois Volunteer Band. Details to follow.

George Washington's personal copy of the Acts of Congress will be on display at the Herbert Hoover Museum.
