 Voting is Open for 2012 SAVE Award; Customs and Border Protection Employee Finalist
(12/18/2012)DHS employees have been leaders in efficiency related efforts across the federal government since the Efficiency Review launched in 2009, and the President’s 2012 SAVE Award competition is no exception. Each year through the SAVE Award competition, President Obama asks Federal employees to share their ideas about how to make government more efficient and effective. Earlier today, OMB announced the launch of public voting to select the winner among this year’s finalists.

Finalists ) The person with the winning idea will have the opportunity to visit the White House, meet President Obama, and have his or her initiative incorporated into the FY 2014 Budget. Out of thousands of ideas submitted government-wide, this year’s “final four” includes DHS employee Laurie Dempsey from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). In 2010, Paul Behe, a Paralegal Specialist for CBP, was one of four finalists selected for the SAVE Award. Laurie’s idea is for Customs and Border Protection to save time and money by posting weekly inspection process records online rather than printing paper copies, which are often hundreds of pages long. This change would save paper, as well as make it easier for the public to find out what items have been inspected without having to visit the facility in person. Voting is open to everyone through noon on Friday, December 21st.
