ICE deports Mexican national wanted in Mexico for homicide

MIAMI - A Mexican national wanted in Mexico for homicide was deported Friday, Sept. 18 by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers assigned to the Miami Field Office of Detention and Removal (DRO).

Jose Maneul Villegas-Felix, 31, was removed without incident and turned over to Mexican authorities who were waiting for him at the airport in Mexico City.

An arrest warrant was issued in Sinaloa, Mexico in 2002, charging Villegas with homicide in connection with the Dec. 15, 2001 murder of Regino Sepulveda-Mercado.

Villegas, who entered the United States illegally, was ordered removed by an immigration judge on May 12, 2009.

"The cooperation between ICE and the Mexican consulate in Miami is a shining example of international law enforcement working together for public safety," said Michael Rozos, ICE field office director for the Miami Field Office of Detention and Removal. "The United States will not be used as a safe haven by criminals."

ICE's Office of Detention and Removal promotes public safety and national security by ensuring that all removable aliens are removed from the United States as expeditiously as possible.
