Summary: Purpose: Prevent and reduce youth violence and gang activity in Tacoma, Washington, through implementation of comprehensive community-based anti-gang strategies based on OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model.

Population served: Youth, ages 10-24, at risk of, or involved with, gangs in five identified Tacoma neighborhoods.

Goals/Objectives: Increase community engagement and capacity for effective anti-gang activities that support the Comprehensive Gang Model:

  • Goal 1: Implement the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model: Mobilize the community and resources to develop an effective program to reduce gang violence.
  • Goal 2: Improve effectiveness of community partners and organizations: Evaluate organizational policies, practices, and coordinate our partners’ work for greater efficiency, effectiveness, and coordination of prevention, intervention, suppression and systems change efforts.

Activities:

  • Using the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model tools, develop an Implementation Plan based on the Assessment findings and evaluation of existing programs/providers.
  • Conduct a Request for Proposals based on identified project priorities and implement prevention, intervention, suppression and systems change strategies and activities based on sound research and evidence.

Review and update key system databases for future assessment of project and accurate evaluation. Evaluate the project using clearly defined performance measures for all outcomes.
