NCFY Recommends: Anti-Bullying Resources
In recent months we've seen the tragic results of teen bullying, but we've also seen a more active focus on how to make schools and programs for young people safer. Here's a roundup of new resources that talk about how to prevent bullying:
- The U.S. Department of Education recently re-launched its StopBullying.gov website. The new site includes a video from Education Secretary Arne Duncan reflecting on the national shift from talking about bullying to actively preventing it. You'll also find information on cyber-bullying, preventing bullying and responding to bullying.
- Recent research (PDF, 612KB) indicates that bullying has influenced the sharp rise in the American Indian and Alaskan Native youth suicide rate. In response, the Indian Health Service released a public service announcement about bullying prevention. IHS produced the video in partnership with the Indian Health Board of Nevada Youth Advisory Council and the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.
- Native America Calling, a live call-in program that deals with issues facing Native communities, on April 24, 2012, recorded a show on standing up to bullies. The episode features Native anti-bullying advocates.
