      From Alice Kandell's very interesting collection of pictures from Sikkim, this is San Francisco-born socialite Hope Cooke, the then-queen consort of Palden Thondup Namgyal, the twelfth and last king of Sikkim:

      And yes, I hope this collection will be posted in full sometime soon. It's always good to see if accomplished photographers put their historically important work in the public domain.

      Thanks @Jim and Trials. Interesting. Does anyone else remember a 60 Minutes or similar televised documentary that Hope Cook did in the 70's or 80s? It was sort of a jackie Kennedy type tour of Sikkim and her life there.

      Sorry, I don't know anything about it. I was completely oblivious of her story (or the very existence of Sikkim as an independent state) until I surfed onto the collection on the LOC website.
