Recycling Home

Just about anything in your home (or office or school, etc.) that cannot be reused can be recycled into something else. You'd be amazed what can be done with a recycled product ...a recycled soda bottle, for example, can be made into T-shirts, combs, or hundreds of other plastic goods that can be used for many years. Even your brand new computer case might be made from ordinary recycled plastics. And paper products can take on different forms as well -- an old phone book or coloring book might become one of your school books or a composition notebook.

To help you recycle more, Fort Stewart's Waste Management Section has changed the way you recycle! We are making recycling as easy as possible to encourage more participation. The changes in the program are due to a recent Department of Defense Pollution Prevention Measure of Merit Mandate requiring all Federal installations and facilities to reduce their solid waste stream by 50% by the year 2015.

Don't throw away anything that can be recycled! Here is a list of things you should always recycle (or reuse!)...

We've designed an eye-catching Recycling Station for use in your work area. Garrison Headquarters already has theirs, click here to find out how to get one for your facility!

The DPW Environmental Division has a Processing Station to segregate commingled recyclable materials. This facility is located at Bldg. # 1384 off Wilson Avenue on Kirkpatrick (entrance to the Fort Stewart landfill). Also, please bring all scrap metal, personal electronics, and printer cartridges to the Recycling Scrap Metal Yard, Bldg. # 1143 on Italy Street on Fort Stewart or at Hunter Army Airfield off N. Perimeter Road on Wesley Avenue. Hours of operation are 0730 - 1600, Monday through Friday.

Along with the facility, blue poly carts have been provided to all Family Housing occupants and blue recycling dumpsters are located throughout Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield for the collection of commingled recyclable items.

Here is the list of locations of the twenty-four hour Recycling Convenience Centers. They are available for anyone on or off post to bring their recyclables.
