Fort Stewart - Medical Services
Winn Army Community Hospital

Web site:  star  Winn Army Community Hospital

Winn Army Community (WACH) Hospital provides medical care for active and retired military personnel and their eligible family members in a "catchment area" covering Liberty, Long, Evans, Tattnall, Wayne, McIntosh, Bulloch, Candler, Effingham, Bryan and Chatham counties. Retirees and family members are provided services on a space-available basis.

Winn Army Community Hospital offers a broad range of medical and surgical specialties, such as internal medicine, dermatology, pediatrics, general surgery, orthopedics, psychiatry, OB-GYN, mental health, diet and nutrition, physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, optometry, audiology, podiatry, and community and occupational health. Ancillary services such as laboratory, radiology, pathology and pharmacy are also provided at WACH.

The Emergency Room at WACH operates 24-hours a day, seven days a week for emergencies. Emergency ambulance service at Fort Stewart can be contacted by calling 911 or 435-6965. Remember if you live off post in the Hinesville area and dial 911, you need to ask for a Fort Stewart Ambulance. For routine or minor ailments, treatment should be sought by appointment through the Troop and Family Medical Care Clinic during normal operating hours.

Dental Clinics – Fort Stewart

Dental care, including preventive dentistry, general dentistry, oral surgery, periodontics, removable prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, and endodontics, is available from the three Dental Treatment Facilities at Fort Stewart and one facility at Hunter Army Airfield.

Dental Clinic #1 is in Bldg. 440, at the east corner of Gulick Avenue and West 6th Street; the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic is located on the second floor in Winn Army Community Hospital; and Dental Clinic #4 is on the corner of Gulick Avenue and Warrior Road, Fort Stewart. The Hunter Army Airfield Dental Clinic/DC #3 is co-located with the Tuttle Army Health Clinic in Bldg. 150 on Haley Avenue.

Dental care for active-duty military personnel is available at these clinics. The Soldier will receive care at the dental clinic assigned to support the Soldier’s unit.

Dental care for family members is provided only on a very limited basis at the DENTAC. Under DoD regulations, family members of active-duty sponsors with two or more years remaining (one year if returning from OCONUS) on active duty are eligible for enrollment in the TRICARE (Family Member) Dental Plan (TDP) and must receive their care through private sector dental offices. Care for eligible beneficiaries is limited to "backup" emergency care in which a civilian provider has not been able to provide the necessary treatment. Family members not eligible for the insurance plan are authorized to receive limited emergency services and very restricted space-available care on a standby basis.

Treatment for dental emergencies after normal hours of clinic operation, on weekends and holidays can be provided for all eligible beneficiaries. Dental emergencies include pain not relieved by medicine available to the patient, uncontrolled bleeding, swelling, trauma, or elevated temperature due to dental or oral infection. Active duty Soldiers are required to use military dental facilities. Persons with dental insurance coverage must attempt to receive care from their civilian dentist before seeking treatment from the Dental Officer on Duty. Those without Tricare Dental Plan (TDP) insurance should seek care from civilian dentists listed in the telephone directory. In Savannah, civilian emergency dental service is available by calling 912-351-7700. TDP is accepted.
