Fort Stewart's Waste Management Section has changed the way you recycle. We are making recycling as easy as possible to encourage more participation.
The changes in the program are due to a recent Department of Defense Pollution Prevention Measure of Merit Mandate requiring all Federal installations and facilities to reduce their solid waste stream by 40% by the year 2010.
To assist with meeting this mandate, the Directorate of Public Works Environmental and the Natural Resource Division have constructed a Processing Station to segregate commingled recyclable materials. This facility is located at Bldg. # 1384 off Wilson Avenue on Kirkpatrick (entrance to the FS landfill). Also, please bring all scrap metal, personal electronics, and printer cartridges to the Recycling Scrap Metal Yard, Bldg. # 1143 on Italy Street on FS or at HAAF off N. Perimeter Road on Wesley Avenue. Hours of operation are 0730 – 1600, Monday through Friday.
Along with the facility, blue poly carts have been provided to all Family Housing occupants and blue recycling dumpsters are being placed throughout both installations for the collection of commingled recyclable items.
