Program Description

The purpose of the Predominantly Black Institutions Competitive Grant Program is to support Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) to establish or strengthen programs in the following areas:

  • Science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM)
  • Health education
  • Internationalization or globalization
  • Teacher preparation; or
  • Improving educational outcomes of African-American males

Types of Projects

Four-year projects that establish or strengthen programs at predominantly Black institutions that are designed to increase the institution's capacity to prepare students for instruction in the above noted fields.

Grants were awarded in FYs 2007 and 2008 for a period of one, two, or three years.
