These smarter light bulbs also mean a new way to shop.

If you want to know how bright a bulb is, forget about Watts – and instead think lumens.

It’s easy:  The more lumens, the brighter the light.

Light bulb packages also have a new Lighting Facts label.

It tells you a bulb’s brightness, and an estimate of its energy cost and life span.

So the next time you shop for a light bulb – any light bulb – look for the amount of lumens and the new Lighting Facts label.
